The Review: As I was looking through some of my notes trying to find something to write about, I stumbled upon this wine and was just shocked that I had forgotten to write about it! The 2019 Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc was one of the biggest unexpected hits of 2020, and for good reason. It's gotten unbelievable recognition, can be found just about anywhere, and best of all, it's $9!

After a great vintage year for California, famed producer Joel Gott was able to put out a smash hit Sauvignon Blanc that ended up being ranked #21 on Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 of 2020. Now, most of these sorts of wines from respected big-name producers will be consistently solid, but it's pretty exciting when they're able to put out a stunner. It's up there with some of the better Sauvignon Blancs in the world, and for the price, it's a no-brainer every night kind of wine. It checks all of the boxes of what we want in a Sauvignon Blanc and shows incredible balance and agility.

The aromas in the 2019 Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc show a nice mix of citruses and tropical fruits- with grapefruit, lime zest, lemon, and orange peel, as well as some pineapple, and a bit of citrus blossom. Overall, the wine is just super aromatic and expressive. The taste is a bit riper than the nose but still maintains a nice freshness and vibrancy. There are notes of pineapple, passionfruit, and Meyer lemon that are woven together with bright acidity and silky texture.

As I mentioned, for the price, this wine is a fantastic pickup for a weeknight... or a weekend for that matter. It's so good, no one needs to know the price. Be sure to get out and try it soon though, because I'm sure they're about to move into the 2020 vintage in the coming months. Beware of pricing though- at places like Kroger, they might charge you more because they always overcharge for big brand names that people always buy. It's an easy way to make a few extra bucks because people don't look at the prices of those sorts of wines. I'd try to find this at a Wegmans if you have one around. Also, move fast cause it's getting hot and this would slap on a porch day.

drink what you like,
